Camarillo, CA | Client: JLL Camarillo, CA | Client: JLL The CSU-Channel Islands campus in Camarillo had grown rapidly since its inception in 2002. Due to recent and expected continued enrollment growth, campus amenities were severely limited and did not meet the university’s current and future needs. On two separate occasions, David was engaged to evaluate options regarding athletic and meeting facilities on campus. With potential plans to add intercollegiate athletics, David was first hired to study opportunities for a multipurpose indoor events center. This included analyses of existing university and community facilities, campus events and their facility needs, and the characteristics of similar venues in comparable NCAA and NAIA conferences. Based on these analyses, David provided recommendations for a multipurpose venue that could meet campus and community needs, with estimated costs, usage, and revenues and expenses. Later, David was asked to provide a similar analysis focused on conference facility needs. Building off of the original study and considering a new campus masterplan (CI 2025), he analyzed ongoing growth, usage of meetings facilities, the needs of university events that cannot be held on campus, and the characteristics of conference facilities in Ventura County and at other southern California campuses. He then provided operating projections for a recommended facility that included an auditorium, breakout meeting rooms, a lecture room, and a large classroom.CSU-Channel Islands Arena and
